JOINT COMMUNICATION FROM BARNET COUNCIL GMB AND UNISON
STATEMENT FROM THE JOINT NEGOTIATION COMMITTEE
Yesterday the Council with its trade unions (GMB and UNISON) entered into negotiations regarding the proposed changes to terms and conditions of employment for those staff covered by local government terms and conditions (The Green Book).
We have agreed that we will work in the interests of employees in a constructive way.
Whilst such negotiations are sometimes difficult, we also recognise that maintaining a dialogue and understanding different points of view is the best approach to reaching an agreement.
The trade unions have been presented with an embargoed copy of the Council’s initial proposals and will respond formally to the council on the 20th October 2014. Until the trade union response has been agreed, we will not be in a position to release any further detail as things may change following trade union feedback. The Trade Unions and the Council will be seeking feedback from members and staff once this is published.
We hope to provide a further joint communication on or after the 21st October 2014 to indicate how we will progress with the negotiations.
Please see the council’s external website for more information.
I will keep you updated with further news throughout the discussions.
