Update on Local Government Pay

As advised in April GMB members wholeheartedly rejected the Local Government Pay offer of a misely 1% increse and asked to be balloted for industrial action.

As a result of this GMB have now commenced a formal ballot for industrial action.  Members who work in Local Authorites, Community Schools, Foundation Schools and Academies should have recieved a ballot paper by the end of this week. If you did not recieve a ballot paper and believe you should please contact your local representative or Branch official. Please also check your contact details are up to date by going here.

If you don’t have your membership number contact your branch for assistance.

The ballot will close on the 27th June 2014 and if the result is to proceed with industrial action, a day of action has been set for Thursday the 10th July. This will be alongside Unison and Unite.

In addition the NUT one of the main unions for Teaching staff has announced that it will coincide its day of action for the 10th July. A statement from the NUT can be found here.

GMB are reccomending that you say yes to industrial action as we feel that enough is enough and it is time our employers made a reasonable offer given the cut in pay we have suffered for at least 5 years. More information on the offer can be found here.

If you are not a GMB member and wish to take part in the day of action you can join here. You will not however be part of the current ballot as this has already been issued.
